It’s been a long, long time since the likes of Inter Milan and Juventus have made an attempt at signing a player of Cristiano Ronaldo’s calibre.
And while it may seem a long shot at times, the chances are that Inter and Juventus are among the most likely clubs to land the striker’s signature.
It’s clear from the sheer number of options that Inter Milan have at the moment.
They’re currently in the process of finalising the signing of Luka Modric, a €40m transfer from Manchester United that could bring the Croatian to the Stadio Olimpico for a fee of €40 million.
And according to reports in the Italian media, Juventus have also started negotiations with Real Madrid over the signing the forward’s signature for a reported €50m.
Inter Milan, meanwhile, have already signed the likes for a mere €7m.
Real Madrid are set to lose out to Inter Milan in the race to sign Ronaldo.
It’s also unlikely that Juventus would be willing to let Modric leave for nothing.
And that leaves Inter, who have a strong squad and have already agreed a fee with Real for the striker, with only one option left.
That’s why, if the pair are able to reach an agreement, it could prove to be a hugely lucrative move for the Nerazzurri.
But with so many other transfer targets still up in the air, it’s worth remembering that there are some other options that have been floating around the market for the past few weeks.
First up is Juventus, who could use a striker this summer, as they have already linked up with Napoli’s Dani Alves, who is also expected to move to Turin for €13m.
And with Juventus currently in a state of flux following the departures of Paulo Dybala and Giorgio Chiellini, there are several options that could see the club go in a different direction, and that could well be the case with Modric.
According to Sky Sport Italia, Inter Milan are also in the running to sign the forward.
It has been suggested that they have a good chance of signing the 21-year-old.
And while Modric would have to commit to a long-term deal, there is a strong chance that he could be sold to any of the top five European clubs.
As things stand now, though, there’s a chance that Inter will make a deal with Real.
The Nerazzuens are looking to make a massive leap forward in terms of their attacking talent, and while that could prove a difficult task for them, it would be a big boost for their squad.
